First Baptist Church

Recently threatened by demolition, the First Baptist Church will soon have a new lease on life as the Allegan Area Community Center (see www.allegancenter.com). Built in 1892, the Romanesque Revival style church was designed by Dillon P. Clark of Bay City, one of Michigan's leading church architects of the time. The non-profit Allegan Area Community Center, Inc. recently received a Certified Local Government grant to conduct a feasibility study for reuse of the church as a community center. Plans include the Allegan Children's Museum in the original church building, a senior drop-in center, and musical performances in the auditorium addition.
